Mary

Surprise, Arizona · Stage IV ovarian cancer survivor

Mary is a seven-year ovarian cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with Stage IV ovarian cancer several years after her ovaries had already been removed.

Throughout her experience, Mary learned how much support can matter. With the care of family, friends, and medical providers, she found ways to navigate the many challenges that came with living with cancer.

She also learned that some parts of the experience can be difficult to put into words. At times, she wished the people around her could better understand how she was really feeling and what she was really thinking.

I wish I would have discovered resource organizations that offer support early in my journey.

Looking back, Mary wishes she had found support organizations earlier. She knows now how valuable it can be to connect with resources and communities that understand the experience of ovarian cancer.

Today, Mary remains hopeful for continued research and new treatments that can better target her cancer cells. Her story is also a reminder that support is not only helpful during treatment. Finding the right people and resources can change how someone moves through the entire experience.
